Root Canals

A root canal treatment involves the removal of any decayed or infected pulp from your tooth. The pulp is found at the center of your tooth and contains blood vessels and nerves. The pulp extends from the crown of your tooth to the tip of your root in the jawbone.

Root Canal Treatment

A root canal treatment is also known as endodontic therapy or a root canal procedure. It involves removing the pulp inside the tooth and replacing it with a special filling material. The procedure is necessary when a tooth has become infected, usually because of a deep cavity or a crack in the enamel. The sensitive nerves located inside the tooth can also be damaged due to trauma to the mouth.

During the procedure, the patient will be anesthetized to ensure optimal comfort throughout the session. This will help them relax and remain at ease while the dentist works on their tooth. For the first few days after the root canal, the patient may experience some mild discomfort and sensitivity. This is normal and will subside on its own within a few days. The patient will be able to return to their normal daily routine after their appointment, but it’s advised that they continue to brush and floss their teeth regularly and avoid consuming sugary foods and drinks. This will help ensure the longevity of their newly restored smile.

What Happens During A Root Canal Procedure?

Once the anesthesia kicks in, your dentist will drill into your tooth to access the infected pulp and nerves. Your dentist will then utilize a special tool to remove the nerve tissue and clean the area to prevent further infection and inflammation. Once the area is free of debris and bacteria, your dentist will seal the tooth with a dental crown to protect it from future damage and decay. We will also send you home with an aftercare plan that includes care instructions and a medication schedule to help ensure that you heal properly.
