Invisalign Explained
The Invisalign system straightens teeth by using a series of clear, removable aligners that work to straighten teeth little by little without metal wires or brackets. A series of custom-molded plastic aligners are created for you based on digital impressions taken of your teeth. You will wear each aligner for about two weeks at a time before moving on to the next set of aligners in the treatment plan until your treatment is complete. These virtually invisible aligners will be worn throughout the day but may be removed before meals or brushing and flossing. There are no diet restrictions, and no adjustments are necessary, making this a convenient treatment option for both adults and teens.
Invisalign aligners are more comfortable than traditional braces, as there is no risk of irritation caused by metal wires rubbing against your mouth. The smooth plastic surface does not irritate sore gums as traditional braces can. In addition, there are no sharp tools used that can cause cuts and abrasions to the inside of your lips. The aligners are made from BPA-free clear plastic, so you don’t have to worry about any harmful toxins leaking into your body. Invisalign aligners are safe to wear while eating and allow for normal brushing and flossing habits since the trays are removed during these tasks. Invisalign is also more hygienic than traditional orthodontics since there is no need to deal with food particles stuck in between metal wires and brackets.
Advantages of Invisalign Over Braces
You can straighten your teeth discreetly without anyone noticing that you are undergoing orthodontic treatment. The clear plastic trays are practically invisible when worn, and because you only need to wear them for about 20 to 22 hours a day, they are far more convenient than traditional braces. You don’t have to worry about food getting stuck in your braces, and you can brush and floss normally to maintain good oral hygiene. In addition, you can take them out to eat a meal or to clean your teeth. However, it is important that you wear your aligners for the proper amount of time each day. You also need to be diligent about wearing them as prescribed. Failing to do so can prolong the treatment time or not give you the results you want in the end.
